  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • As the Upper Level Low Pressure Trough moves eastward and the High Pressure in the Southwest US Strengthens our way we keep dry a while longer. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems over or approaching Oregon. The graphics for days 3-7   Sunday through Thursday show the frontal activity for the Pacific Northwest through the period and one frontal system offshore next Thursday.
  • NOTE: As usual, we have already had the sunny and hot weather that we should have for the Independence Day Holiday weekend, but no.. more clouds, cooler and even a slight chance of a shower for at least part of the long 4th of July Holiday weekend.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Partly cloudy tonight,
  • AM clouds, mostly sunny Friday afternoon, partly cloudy Friday night,
  • A mix of clouds and sun and a bit cooler Saturday, mostly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of showers late at night,
  • Mostly cloudy and a bit cooler with a slight (20%) chance of showers Sunday and Sunday night.
  • lows 52-54 cooling back to 52 Sunday night highs 80-70.
