  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough moves through the Pacific Northwest with short-term improving weather. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems over or approaching Oregon. The graphics for days 3-7   Saturday through Wednesday show no frontal systems moving into the Pacific Northwest through the period, but one complex frontal system offshore next Tuesday.
  • NOTE: As usual, we have already had the sunny and hot weather that we should have for the Independence Day Holiday weekend, but no.. more clouds, cooler and even a slight chance of a shower for the long 4th of July Holiday weekend.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Mostly cloudy start, mostly sunny and a bit warmer this afternoon, mostly clear tonight,
  • Some AM clouds, sunny and a bit warmer Thursday afternoon, mostly clear at night,
  • Partly cloudy Friday, then partly cloudy Friday night.
  • highs 79-82 lows near 52.
  • A mix of clouds and sun and a bit cooler Saturday, partly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of evening showers, mostly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of showers late Saturday night,
