  • A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 11AM UNTIL 11 PM MONDAY FOR THE LOWER COLUMBIA BASIN OF OREGON.
  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

  • An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) has turned the heat up, way up. The graphics for days 1-3 show no frontal systems over or approaching Oregon. The graphics for days 3-7   Wednesday through Friday show no frontal systems moving into the Pacific Northwest through the period.
  • NOTE: Remember to drink plenty of fluids and stay as cool as you can in this sudden hot spell. NEVER leave your child or a pet in your hot car EVER!

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Sunny and Hot today, clear tonight,
  • Sunny and a bit cooler Monday, clear at night,
  •  Some AM clouds, mostly sunny and cooler Tuesday, then partly cloudy Tuesday night.
  • highs 94-77 lows 58-52.
  • Some AM clouds, mostly sunny and a bit warmer Wednesday, mostly clear Wednesday night,
  • Mostly sunny Thursday, mostly clear at night,
