  • A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) brought sunshine and warmer temperatures just in time as Summer began. The graphics for days 1-3 show a frontal system  falling apart as it’s moving through Oregon . The graphics for days 3-7   Saturday through Wednesday show a cold front moving into the Pacific Northwest next Monday and Tuesday.

Forecast for the South Willamette Valley including Eugene-Springfield:

  • AM sun, partly cloudy this afternoon, mostly clear tonight,
  • Mostly sunny and a bit cooler Thursday, clear at night,
  • Sunny and a bit warmer Friday, then clear Friday night.
  • highs 82-75 warming to 80 Friday lows 47-54
  • Sunny and a bit warmer Saturday, clear Saturday night,
  • Mostly sunny and a bit warmer Sunday, mostly clear at night,
  • Then mostly sunny and a bit cooler Monday and Tuesday, mostly clear Monday night.
