HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

A blocking  Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) is being pushed eastward with an Upper Level Low strengthening off the coast. The graphics for days 1-3  show system, show no frontal systems approaching the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7  Friday through next Tuesday show a quiet weather pattern with a complex frontal system pushing through Oregon Friday through next Sunday.

Note: Sunday was a hot one. Record high 94 for Eugene and 95 for North Bend. Monday Eugene hit another record high 89.

Forecast For The South Willamette Valley Including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Some AM clouds with patchy fog, sunny and a bit cooler this afternoon, partly cloudy with patchy fog tonight,
  • Mostly sunny Wednesday, mostly clear at night,
  • Some AM clouds, mostly sunny and a bit cooler Thursday, then mostly clear with patchy fog late Thursday night.
  • highs 87-80 lows 54-52..
  • Some AM clouds, mostly sunny Friday afternoon, mostly clear Friday night,
  • Partly cloudy and a bit cooler Saturday and at night,
  • Then partly cloudy and a bit cooler Sunday through Monday.
