HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

The persistent blocking  Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) will be slowly letting go its hold on the Pacific Northwest with Upper Level Low Pressure taking over early next week. The problem is that it will not be bringing rain with it, just cooler more normal temperatures for the season.  The graphics for days 1-3  show a weak front will fall apart as it tries to move over the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7   Wednesday through next Sunday show what little frontal activity will occur through the period until a cold front move in between Friday and next Saturday.
