HEALTH ADVISORIES

A PERMANENT RECREATIONAL HEALTH ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER AND MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER. THE ADVISORY COVERS THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER FROM CANYONVILLE DOWNSTREAM TO THE CONFLUENCE OF THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER, AND THE MAINSTEM UMPQUA RIVER DOWNSTREAM PAST ELKTON TO LAWSON BAR. PEOPLE IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP CYANOBACTERIA (BLUE-GREEN ALGAE) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE RIVER.

THE WEATHER PATTERN

An Upper Level Low Pressure Trough (“U” shape) is taking over, but he problem is that it will not be bringing rain with it, just cooler temperatures.  The graphics for days 1-3  show no frontal activity over the Pacific Northwest. The graphics for days 3-7   Wednesday through next Sunday show what little frontal activity will occur through the period until a cold front move in between Friday and next Saturday.

Forecast For The South Willamette Valley Including Eugene-Springfield:

  • Partly cloudy tonight,
  • A mix of clouds and sun and a bit cooler Monday, partly cloudy Monday night,
  • Partly cloudy and a bit warmer Tuesday, partly cloudy at night,
  • Some AM clouds, sunny and a bit warmer Wednesday afternoon, then clear Wednesday night.
  • lows 42-47 highs 67-69 warming to 80 Wednesday.
  • Mostly sunny and a bit warmer Thursday, mostly clear Thursday night,
  • Partly cloudy and a bit cooler Friday, partly cloudy at night,
  • Partly cloudy and a bit cooler with a slight (20%) chance of showers Saturday and Saturday night,
