At approximately 1:30 a.m. on October 22, an officer was inside the Eugene Police Downtown Station, 960 Olive, when he heard a verbal dispute in the alley. He opened the door and saw two men kicking and punching an Audi SUV in what looked like an attempt to keep the driver from leaving. The officer called for additional patrol units. The officer gave commands to the two men, who were later identified as Blake Edwin Ruth, age 23, from Springfield, and Broderick Jeremiah Quaschnick, age 21, of Eugene. Ruth complied, but Quaschnick opted to challenge the officer and yelled at him, being hostile and combative.

Quaschnick continued to aggress the officer and the vehicle’s driver. Officers opted to arrest Quaschnick for Disorderly Conduct. Quaschnick began to flee, despite being told that he was under arrest. Arriving officers pursued him on foot to an alley, where he was taken safely into custody with the aid of tasers displayed by officers. Quaschnick was transported and lodged at Lane County Jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct, Interfering, and Escape. Ruth was transported to Lane County Jail on a charge of Disorderly Conduct. 23-15898

The driver of the vehicle opted to not pursue charges for Criminal Mischief.
